When dynamic forehead wrinkles stick around even when you’re not looking surprised or worried, it may be time to seek a treatment for those telltale aging signs. While BOTOX® can be effective in smoothing away these lines and creases, the results are only temporary. The medication may also lose its potency over time as those wrinkles become more deeply etched. At this point, Dr. Weston may recommend a brow lift or forehead lift to provide you with more dramatic, longer-lasting results.

While a brow lift is ideal for treating signs of aging on the forehead, a facelift or neck lift can address wrinkles, folds and sagging skin in the lower face. In some cases, Dr. Weston will combine these procedures into a single surgery to help you meet your cosmetic goals at once.

Is a brow lift right for you?

Brow lift surgery is ideal for patients experiencing localized signs of aging that affect only your upper face, such as:

  • Frown lines
  • Forehead creases
  • Crow’s feet
  • Heavy eyelids
  • Sagging or asymmetrical eyebrows

During your consultation, Dr. Weston will talk with you about your goals and evaluate your medical history, skin quality and overall health before recommending a procedure to address your concerns.

What to expect during brow lift surgery

A variety of techniques may be used during brow lift surgery, including the popular and less invasive endoscopic brow lift technique. Depending on the technique chosen, a single incision or a few small incisions are made on the scalp, hidden behind the hairline. The forehead skin, fat and muscle tissues are lifted.

After excess tissue is removed, sutures or screws may be placed temporarily to hold the lifted tissue in place. The forehead is bandaged after incisions are closed.

Brow lift recovery

Due to the effects of anesthesia, you will need a ride home following your brow lift procedure. In order to minimize swelling and bruising, keep your head elevated and apply cold compresses the first few days after surgery. You may feel numbness, itching or other strange sensations as your nerves recover from brow lift surgery, but those sensations will resolve over time.

Depending on the brow lift technique used, you can resume normal daily activities and have stitches, staples and screws removed within one to two weeks. Full brow lift recovery can take several months.
