After years of making facial expressions, it is natural to develop wrinkles and lines on our face. Perhaps you have just started to notice these early signs of aging or maybe you have more advanced wrinkles but are unsure of what you can do to rejuvenate your skin and make it look younger. BOTOX® may be the answer for you, regardless of where you are in the aging process. BOTOX® is the most popular cosmetic treatment offered by cosmetic and plastic surgeons. Approved for use in more than 70 countries, this wrinkle-reducing injection has been utilized by over seven million people in over 13 million treatment sessions. The popularity of BOTOX® continues to grow because it is relatively non-invasive, nonsurgical, affordable and requires little to no downtime or recovery time. The results are smoother, younger-looking skin.

The most important component to your BOTOX® treatment is choosing a highly trained doctor to perform your BOTOX® injections. Doing so ensures a natural, beautiful, more youthful look – not a frozen and fake appearance. Dr. Weston and her staff at Jane Weston, MD have the knowledge, training and experience to give you the safest and most natural BOTOX® treatment.

Is BOTOX® right for you?

BOTOX® can be used by healthy men and women to treat the following cosmetic concerns on the face:

  • Frown lines
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Glabellar lines (the lines between the eyebrows)

In addition to these cosmetic purposes, BOTOX® can be used in several therapeutic treatments for conditions like muscle spasms, chronic migraines, eyelid spasms and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

While BOTOX® is safe for most people, it is not recommended for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. Also, if you have previously had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in BOTOX®, you should not have the treatment.

BOTOX® can smooth out wrinkles and give you a more youthful appearance. If you are interested in learning more about BOTOX® and all of the procedures we offer to treat wrinkles, contact Jane Weston, MD at 650-363-0300 to schedule a consultation.

Your BOTOX® Procedure

Before your BOTOX® procedure, Dr. Weston will meet with you to discuss your health history, areas of concern and the treatment plan. Dr. Weston will mix the powdered botulinum with saline to make the proper concentration for your BOTOX® injections so that the mixture will safely and effectively treat your wrinkles. You face will be cleaned and local anesthesia or numbing cream will be used to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Next, Dr. Weston will carefully select the injection sites and mark them with a pen to ensure the precise placement of the BOTOX®. Several injection sites will be chosen along the muscle where it contracts, not in the actual wrinkle. Targeting the muscle more effectively treats dynamic wrinkles—the wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movement. Sterile, tiny needles will be used to inject BOTOX® into the facial muscles. Dr. Weston will gently squeeze the injection site, insert the needle and pulse it with her fingers during each injection.

Most patients do not feel the injections; however, you may feel a very slight prick when the needle is inserted into your skin. The injections are quick and any discomfort should go away rapidly. When all of the injections have been placed, your treatment is complete and you are free to go about your daily routine. There is no need for bandages or topical medication.

Additional products may be combined with your BOTOX® treatment to produce optimal results:

  • JUVEDERM® is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that adds volume to areas of the face that are sunken or hollow, reducing the appearance of moderate wrinkles. JUVEDERM® can last up to one year.
  • Restylane is a dermal filler comprised of hyaluronic acid that acts like our own fat to restore volume to the face and diminish the appearance of deep wrinkles and nasolabial folds. Restylane works for six to nine months.
  • Radiesse is a dermal filler that consists of calcium hydroxylapatite and hyaluronic acid, which gives it superior volumizing capabilities. Radiesse is effective for up to 18 months and is most often used to volumize the cheek region.

Depending on the number of treatment sites and the use of additional products, the entire procedure may last a few minutes up to 20 minutes.

After BOTOX® Treatment

You are free to return to normal activities immediately following your BOTOX® treatment. You should remain in an upright position for six hours after your treatment and avoid alcohol and sun exposure for the first 24 hours. Carefully following the post-procedure instructions will help ensure proper healing. Approximately four to seven days after your injections, the muscles will enter a temporary paralysis, causing your wrinkles to flatten out and become less noticeable.

As with any treatment or procedure, you may experience side effects from your BOTOX® treatment, including headaches, muscle aches, dry eyes, dry mouth and redness or pain at the injection sites. These reactions are usually mild and subside quickly. If, however, you have any questionable side effects, contact Jane Weston, MD and we will be happy to address your concerns.

Beautiful Results

Within four to seven days following your BOTOX® treatment you can expect the following noticeable, beautiful results:

  • Reduced appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • Smooth skin
  • Lifted eyebrows
  • Prevention of future fine lines

You can expect your results to last up to six months. Aside from the immediate reduction of lines and wrinkles, consistent BOTOX® treatments performed every four months help to maintain your appearance and prevent future aging as the muscles will continue to relax with regularly-scheduled injections.
