If you’re constantly hearing how tired you look no matter how much extra sleep you get, and eye creams do little to refresh your appearance, it may be time to consult with Dr. Weston about blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery.
If you’re considering eyelid surgery, you may want to investigate a brow lift or endoscopic brow lift surgery as well to further refresh your appearance.
After carefully reviewing your medical history and assessing your health, Dr. Weston will consult with you about your cosmetic goals. Eyelid surgery performed on your upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both can correct the following problems:
Anesthesia options for eyelid surgery include general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation.
If upper eyelid hooding is the problem, incisions are hidden in the upper eyelid crease. If issues with the lower eyelid need to be corrected, incisions are hidden either below the lower lash line or inside the lower eyelid (known as a transconjunctival approach). Once incisions are made, excess skin is removed, eyelid muscles are tightened and fatty tissues are repositioned. Incisions are closed with fine sutures, and the entire blepharoplasty procedure is completed within about one to three hours. Depending on the type of incisions used, sterile bandages may be applied.
Eyelid surgery may be performed in conjunction with laser skin resurfacing to reduce wrinkles, and fat grafting to improve dark circles under the eyes.
Due to the effects of anesthesia, you will not be able to drive immediately following your eyelid surgery.
You will be able to return to normal daily activities and apply makeup within seven to 10 days. However, you may not want make public appearances for about two weeks, when swelling and bruising have diminished sufficiently. You can take steps to reduce bruising and swelling, such as using cold compresses and keeping your head elevated for the first few days following surgery.
Three weeks after eyelid surgery, you should be able to begin wearing contact lenses. Final eyelid surgery results are achieved in about three months. Those results will last many years as long as you protect your eyes from the sun and use high-quality skin care products to nourish and hydrate the delicate skin in the area.
Eyelid surgery refreshes tired eyes and can wake up your entire appearance. To schedule your consultation and find out whether eyelid surgery is the right option for you, contact Jane Weston, MD at 650-363-0300.
