Individuals who don’t qualify for gastric or another similar weight loss surgery but still have excess fat may want to undergo liposuction. Not only can a cosmetic surgeon remove fat in the abdominal area, but it’s possible for the practitioner to perform liposuction on other areas of the body as well. Dr. Jane Weston is a cosmetic surgeon who serves Palo Alto, CA and the nearby region. She gives this area of “The Golden State” access to liposuction and other aesthetic procedures. Plus, getting the body you want may be less expensive than you may have anticipated.
Liposuction is a strictly cosmetic procedure to remove excess fat. It’s not to be used as a method to lose weight. It’s intended to rid your body of fat you can’t seem to lose by dieting or exercising. Our surgeon may perform liposuction on your stomach, back, arms, buttocks, thighs, or hips. In some cases, patients have a tummy tuck or another procedure along with liposuction to optimize the results.
Generally, the only people who qualify for this surgical procedure are within 30 percent of their ideal weight. Additionally, their skin is firm and has good elasticity. Dr. Weston screens patients before the procedure to ensure they don’t smoke or have certain health problems that could interfere with the surgery.
When you’re assessing the cost of liposuction, you’ll want to take into consideration just how much is entailed in the procedure. When you arrive for your surgery, we’ll start by prepping you for the procedure. At this point, we’ll mark the areas where you’ll have fat removed. You’ll either receive a sedative along with a local anesthetic, or our surgeon will administer general anesthesia.
Next, our surgeon will make an incision, possibly more than one if you’re having a large area or more than one area, treated. She may inject a solution to make it easier to remove the fat. Then, she applies a tube connected to a vacuum in order to suction the fat. Finally, she’ll close the incision.
The price of liposuction varies greatly. The factors that affect the price the most is the size of the area and how much fat you’re having removed. Since size plays a role in the cost, you can expect to pay less for your arms than you would your stomach. Most people can expect to pay anywhere between $3000 and over $10,000. This estimate doesn’t reflect the cost of the operating room or anesthesia.
Keep in mind, in addition to the surgeon’s time and skill, you’re also paying for anesthesia, the operating room, post-surgical garments, and pre-op medical tests. These fees are the same for all liposuction patients.
Our surgeon discusses your total cost at your initial consultation. She’ll provide you with a breakdown of the expenses, so you know exactly what you’re paying for and why. Keep in mind, you’ll also have to pay for a script for pain medication for after your surgery. You pay this to the pharmacy.
Insurance won’t cover any of the costs of liposuction. This is because liposuction is a strictly cosmetic procedure and isn’t performed to benefit your health.
